Lake Tahoe Cole Mizak November 1, 2022

Incline Village is an affluent, country club-style town on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Washoe County, Nevada. With a population of almost 9,000, the Village is one of the largest communities in the Lake Tahoe area. Incline Village real estate is a luxury paradise for explorers, as the area offers thrilling water activities throughout the year. Sprawling mansions are draped by scenic, lush mountains and pristine private beaches. It’s no wonder this desert oasis attracts some of the most elite adventurers searching for their next thrill.

Beyond the myriad of exhilarating activities and prime, upscale real estate, Incline Village also offers world-class education for K-12 students. The Village houses Lake Tahoe School and I-School, two of the highest-ranking private schools in the area. About a quarter of local grade school students attend one of these private schools, four times more than Nevada's state average. The private school system is competitive, accepting only 60 percent of applicants, a rate 20 percent lower than the state's average.

What makes Lake Tahoe School and I-School the best in Incline Village? Keep reading to find out!

Lake Tahoe School (LTS) is a prestigious, non-sectarian private elementary school just a short walk along Lake Tahoe's northern shores. Established over two decades ago, the Pre-K through eighth-grade private school quickly became the preferred choice for parents. In just a few years, the academy has been named the number one school in Incline Village.

Highly qualified faculty and staff are committed to helping students reach their fullest potential through dynamic, creative learning. The state-of-the-art classrooms and age-differentiated play areas support student growth and engagement through self-discovery and self-expression. The campus curriculum comprises 17 fully developed, teacher-led programs and courses, including computer animation, music theory, creative writing, and Spanish. Lake Tahoe School offers various extracurricular activities, including performing arts, public speaking, clubs, and athletics.

There are 225 students currently enrolled at Lake Tahoe School, along with 36 full-time and part-time teachers. The student-to-teacher ratio sits at an impressive 10:1, and the average class size is 16-18, ensuring students receive dedicated attention. The starting age is three years for Pre-K, and yearly tuition ranges from $10,000 to $27,500, depending on grade level.

The application process is similar to Lake Tahoe School and includes submitting an inquiry and required documentation for the application. However, I-School applications have an additional interview step. The application process also allows students to enroll full-time or choose from “a la carte” options for a tailored experience. Individual courses range from $200 to $590 per semester, while tutoring starts at $75, and standardized test proctoring is $35 per test. I-School is a top-ranked private academy providing middle and high school students a nontraditional fast-track pathway to local colleges, Ivy League, and choice international universities. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The non-sectarian, non-profit organization offers year-round instruction. Students can transfer their course credits taken at I-School to other schools.

I-School is an academy unlike any other private school, turning traditional education on its head. Offered as an alternative to a one-size-fits-all curriculum structure, the school operates using competency-based learning principles. Students receive individualized instruction and college pathways by identifying the student's unique learning styles and critically analyzing the student's needs and desired outcomes. The well-trained staff understands that not all students can and will learn in an environment restricted by time. Instead, I-School's philosophy empowers students to prove mastery of core competencies no matter how long mastery may take. Competency-based education focuses on what the student knows rather than how much time was spent learning about a subject. The student is rewarded with advancement as soon as they can prove mastery in an area, whether mastery takes two weeks or two months.

The school offers one-on-one instruction for 56 programs, including music, languages, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and dual college credit for high school students. Students can complete their studies full-time or part-time, providing flexible schedules for traveling, competitions, and unforeseen events. The co-ed campus offers short instructional days that start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.

The application process also allows students to enroll full-time or choose from “a la carte” options for a tailored experience. Individual courses range from $200 to $590 per semester, while tutoring starts at $75, and standardized test proctoring is $35 per test. For updated tuition and other current and upcoming school year information, visit I-School's website.
