Lake Tahoe Cole Mizak April 26, 2026
By Cole Mizak, Lake Tahoe real estate agent with Compass
May is one of my favorite months in Lake Tahoe.
The snow is still visible on the peaks, the lake starts to feel more active, and the pace is calmer than the busy summer season. It is the kind of month where you can hike in the morning, grab lunch on a sunny patio, tour homes in the afternoon, and still catch a quiet sunset over the water.
I’m Cole Mizak with Compass, recognized as the #1 agent by sales volume in Incline Village for 2025, and I spend a lot of time helping clients understand not just the market, but the lifestyle that makes Tahoe so special.
Whether you live here full time, own a second home, or are exploring Lake Tahoe homes for sale, May is the perfect time to experience the area before peak summer demand arrives.
May mornings on the East Shore can be incredible. When the wind is calm, the water near Sand Harbor, Hidden Beach, and Incline Village often has that glassy, clear-blue Tahoe look everyone comes here for.
The water is still cold, so dress appropriately and pay attention to conditions. But for experienced paddlers, this is one of the best times of year to get on the lake without the heavy summer boat traffic.
From a real estate perspective, this is also when many buyers start to understand why lake access matters so much. Homes near the water, properties with private beach access, and neighborhoods close to launch points continue to be some of the most desirable in the Tahoe market.
Tunnel Creek Trail is one of the best spring hikes near Incline Village. It gives you lake views, fresh mountain air, and a great sense of the terrain that makes this side of Tahoe so unique.
In May, lower-elevation trails are often more accessible than higher alpine routes, though conditions can change depending on snowpack. I always recommend checking trail conditions before heading out.
This is also a great area to explore if you are considering living in Incline Village. You get quick access to hiking, biking, beaches, restaurants, and some of the most sought-after neighborhoods in North Lake Tahoe.
The Tahoe East Shore Trail is one of the best ways to experience the Nevada side of the lake in spring. The paved path connects Incline Village toward Sand Harbor and offers incredible views along the shoreline.
May is a great month for this ride because the weather is often comfortable and the crowds are lighter than they are in July and August. It is also a great reminder of why lifestyle drives so much of the local real estate market.
As a Lake Tahoe realtor, I often tell buyers that Tahoe is not just about the house. It is about how quickly you can get outside and enjoy the place you came here for.
Golf season starts to come alive in May around Lake Tahoe, depending on course openings and weather. The combination of mountain views, crisp air, and longer days makes spring golf especially enjoyable.
For buyers, golf access can be a major lifestyle factor. In Incline Village, proximity to golf, beaches, trails, and town amenities can all influence long-term value and day-to-day enjoyment.
May beach days in Tahoe are different from peak summer beach days. They are quieter, cooler, and more relaxed.
You may not be swimming for hours yet, but you can walk the shoreline, bring coffee, sit in the sun, or take in the views without the busiest season’s parking pressure. Visit Lake Tahoe highlights spring as a time for beaches, hiking, biking, golf, and outdoor dining as the area transitions into warmer weather.
This is one of the best times for prospective buyers to tour different communities around the lake. You can compare Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Glenbrook, and South Lake Tahoe without the full summer rush.
Spring runoff makes May a great time to see waterfalls around the Tahoe Basin. Trails near Emerald Bay, Eagle Falls, and Cascade Falls are especially popular, though access and conditions vary year to year.
Bring proper footwear, check trail reports, and expect muddy or snowy patches in some areas. Tahoe in May is beautiful, but it is still a mountain environment.
One of the simple pleasures of May in Tahoe is eating outside again. Patios start to feel lively, the evenings get longer, and restaurants around the lake begin shifting into their warmer-weather rhythm.
In Incline Village, I like the ease of grabbing a casual meal after a trail day or meeting clients for coffee before looking at properties. That blend of outdoor access and everyday convenience is a big part of what makes the community so appealing.
May is also an important month for the Lake Tahoe real estate market.
Many buyers begin getting serious before summer, and sellers often use spring to prepare homes for listing. If you are watching Lake Tahoe homes for sale, May can give you a clearer sense of inventory, pricing, and competition before the busiest months of the year.
And yes, some people even search “Lalke Tahoe homes for sale” by mistake. No matter how you found your way here, the goal is the same: finding the right property, in the right community, with the right strategy.
As a local Lake Tahoe real estate agent, I help clients evaluate more than bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage. We look at sun exposure, elevation, HOA rules, beach access, rental restrictions, neighborhood feel, resale value, and how the property fits the way you actually want to live.
May is one of the best times to get ahead of the summer market.
If you are considering buying, selling, or simply want a clear read on the market, I would be happy to help.
